Etch sAo Sketch - Standalone Complete with Battery

This little gadget is way more fun than it should be! It functions just like you expect. The analog knobs have a delightful and authentic feel. Included demo firmware operates like the classic toy which inspired this design. Shake to clear? Of course!

Aside from the analog knobs, the prominent screen is a 128×128 pixel monochrome OLED display stacked on a custom PCB which holds a 3-axis accelerometer. The analog potentiometers are connected to analog inputs of the accelerometer, which means all of the components are accessible over a single I2C bus. It is fully compatible with the Simple Add-On standard.

To make this module completely standalone requires the included SAO Demo Controller Board and a (USB-C) rechargebable LiPo battery. All of this is tightly integrated into a custom 3D-printed case. You can modify the demo firmware in the Arduino environment, or switch to a MicroPython/CircuitPython programming environment. The microcontroller module is a standard Waveshare RP2040-Zero clone.

This product is a combination of the following two modules with more details available for each project on Guithub. Both of these are also available individually on this website.
